Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie house. Built for Fred C. Robie in 1909 (actually finished in 1912, but that didn't stop people from living in it). This was essentially the beginning of Frank Lloyd Wright's prairie style houses. There were three different families that lived in the house within only 10 years, and after that it was turned into a dorm. It was almost demolished twice to build a bigger dorms building before a private buyer bought it and saw to it that it was put on the historic registry.
Mr. Robie had a very specific idea of what he wanted with this house. The high terraces and planters give the house a sense of privacy from the street without having to have shades or curtains on the windows to obstruct the view out.
Kara in front of the main entrance to the Robie House. FLW wanted people that were visiting the house to experience the building as they approached it, so from the driveway you have to walk all the way around the front of the house to get to the main entrance.

Nice job on this one Mies..."What? We need two bathrooms?...Oh, that's ok, we'll just make them both half the size"...REALLY?! I'm no scientist, but this doesn't seem to work.
Kara lounging in the altar area. There weren't any signs, but I don't think this is allowed.
